Friday Prompts for Students

Figure It Out Friday

This prompt has endless possibilities as to what you want to focus it on! I have mainly used this prompt as a review of a skill from the week or just a general knowledge review. My students enjoy this prompt because it serves as a trivia question in which they have all been exposed to the answer. For this prompt the students write their answer on the back of the sticky note (the sticky side) and place their name on the front, this way only their name is displayed with their answer hidden so that everybody else has to think for themselves. 😊👌 It serves as a great check-in tool to start off a Friday and keeps the students thinking throughout the day until the closing circle when we revisit our morning work prompts.

Flashback Friday

This is a new prompt that I am going to implement this fall with my students. This prompt asks students to think back to any memory that makes them feel happy and excited. Students write their memory on their sticky note and add it to the chart, then during sharing time at closing circle, students get to share this flashback memory with everyone. This prompt teaches students to reflect throughout everything that has happened in their short little lives, and pick a memory that invokes happiness and excitement within them. It teaches a valuable skill of being able to recall fond memories so that when a student is in a time of distress or struggle, they are able to pick these happy memories out to help them through their tough time.
