Amazing Job Stickies!
This has got to be one of my favorite things to do for my students!! I LOVE printing onto sticky notes, then adding a personal message to a student after a school day is over. After all of my students have left for the day I have a copy of my student roster and I think about 4-6 students who just had an absolutely amazing day. I grab some of my pre-printed "Amazing Job" sticky notes and write them a short message about why I am so proud of them. I keep my messages short but specific. When I write to a student I place a mark next to their name so that I can ensure that all students are receiving these positive notes on a consistent basis. Then I place the sticky note on the students' desks and when they arrive the next morning, they get to start their day with a positive note from their teacher specifically stating something amazing I caught them doing. Talk about having your students start out on a positive note!
Thank You Stickies!
This is a GREAT way to show your students or colleagues that you appreciate something they did during that school day! I don't have a set amount of these that a day per-day like I do with the "Amazing Job" stickies nor do I keep track of who receives these since it is based on showing my appreciation for something they did. If I notice a student helped another student pick up their pencil box that spilled on the floor I write them a thank you sticky acknowledging that I saw them perform an act of kindness. If I see a student fixing all of the seating tools at the end of the day when it isn't their job, I write them a sticky thanking them for doing that. If I see a student lends a helping hand to a student I write them a sticky letting them know that I saw what they did and I appreciate them being a helper. I even use these with my colleagues! Sometimes those IEP meetings just go longer than expected and someone has to cover your room. I use these to write a short and sweet thank you to them and place it in their mailbox. Of course I verbally said my thanks when I returned to my room, but a hand written thank you shows that you truly appreciate what they did. During the holidays when my aide is busy making copies, cutting, organizing and laminating all types of things for my students I make sure to write her several "thank you" stickies to show that I appreciate everything she is doing for myself and my students. Without her I'd be spending countless hours at work completing these tasks.
